About Me

Colleen Shay, Ph.D. is a licensed school psychologist with over 20 years of experience working with preschool, school-age, and adolescent children and their families in a variety of settings.  Dr. Shay graduated Magna Cum Laude from Duke University with a B.A. in Psychology and Early Childhood Studies.  She earned her Ph.D. in School Psychology at the University of South Carolina, where she was awarded the Bernice C. Blich Graduate School Fellowship and the Department of Psychology Fellowship.  As a part of her doctoral training, Dr. Shay completed an APA-accredited internship at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC.  At UNC, she was trained to conduct evaluations for autism spectrum disorders at TEACCH and she gained specialized skills in early childhood (ages birth-6 years) assessment and intervention.

Following her internship, Dr. Shay moved to New York City where she conducted evaluations of children ages three through five attending independent Manhattan preschools including, The Ethical Culture School, The 92nd Street YMCA Preschool, The Brownstone School, and Temple Emanu-El Nursery School.  While in NYC, Dr. Shay also worked as a psychologist with Dr. Mel Levine’s All Kinds of Minds Student Success Center, serving as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing neurodevelopmental assessments and learning plans for students (grades 1-12).

In 2005, Dr. Shay returned to her home state of Connecticut and joined Pathways Center for Learning and Behavioral Health in Essex.  During her time at Pathways, Dr. Shay co-founded and co-directed Pathways to Student Success, the educational consulting branch of the practice.  Her services included: comprehensive evaluations of children and adolescents struggling with learning disabilities, attention problems, behavioral difficulties, developmental delays, social/emotional concerns, and Autism spectrum disorders; consultation and follow-up for developing and implementing accommodations and interventions at home and school; assisting families with obtaining needed resources and services; classroom observations; attendance at school conferences; and collaboration with other professionals.

Dr. Shay is thrilled to announce the establishment of Shoreline Educational Assessment Center, LLC and is looking forward to continuing to provide much needed comprehensive and personalized support services for students and their families throughout Connecticut.
